Series: Worship the King Part 1 06-13-10 Pastor Mark DuPre Worship is going on 24/7 around God’s throne, but what is OUR understanding of worship supposed to be? This sermon goes into what worship really is (and isn’t!), and what happens in and around us as we give God the glory He so deserves. Worship the King First, what it isn’t—music, dancing, singing, clapping, etc. It’s not prep for the sermon. Worship is something going on in heaven, 24/7—Rev. 4:8-11, and Is. 6. What is worship?—reverence expressed, honor paid, devotion, etc. Biblical expressions of public worship: Lifting hands, clapping hands, playing instruments, standing, kneeling, dancing, etc. It’s a HEART thing FIRST, then an expressive thing! But it IS expressed! Worship is more intimate than praise, more relational. God-directed. For Him, TO HIM. WHY worship?
It’s a RESPONSE to God, to His love and mercy and grace. We were CREATED to worship. Mark 12:30 What happens when we worship?
There is a cost—a small one: 96:8b Prepare your heart. Read His word and meditate a few minutes. Let prayer come from your heart to the Lord. Enemies:
When God moves, we either enter in, or back away. Do I want to make God happy? Do I want to bless Him? Is He worthy in my eyes of making changes that will honor Him? Remember, He is there to HELP US! Ultimately, EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING will give God His glory. For right now, though, that is our happy privilege to do!
