Little But Living Large 08-08-10 Pastor Bruce Plummer This message takes a lesson from the book of Proverbs and applies it to human life. Are the relatively small able to live a life that’s great? Follow the example of these four creatures and find God’s path for your life… Little but Living Large Proverbs 30.24-28 How many people are on the planet right now? 6.8 billion, maybe? And you’re just one! Feeling small? God here gives us four examples of the small in the animal world and yet, they are exceedingly wise; extra large in the smarts department; living large. How can you live a great life when you are just one? Verse 25, the ants. Little. They’re not strong. But here’s how they are great.
They know how to prepare when times are good for the times that aren’t good, the hard times. These little critters are nothing if not industrious. They work and they work when they can in order to store up for the times when they can’t. So what about you?
What are you doing now for the inevitable winters of life? Study, save, work hard at your job; sure. Dealing with the past and forgiving. Building relationships properly and strong. Learning God’s ways and applying them. Do what you can do now for the days that lie ahead. Don’t let life just happen to you. Verse 26, the Conies. Rabbit like creatures, very defenseless. They’ve found a way to acknowledge their weaknesses and compensate by living in the rocks. Do you have a weakness? Relationships with the opposite sex? Alcohol? Gambling? Lying? Gossip? First; acknowledge that you are weak somewhere! Put it out there. And live in a way that keeps you safe. Get out of the bar! Don’t hang with the people who influence you badly! Get out of the open. Live where it’s protected! Verse 27, the locusts. Each locust is relatively small. No one locust can ruin a crop. But waves of them can! Locusts have ordered, committed relationships. They attack things together. They hang together. You need to work hard at the relationships in your life. You will not accomplish your goals in life without a team of people propelling you ahead. Verse 28, the spider or the lizard. These creatures are very small, hardly effective, except for one thing: they can crawl on walls and ceilings and hang in nooks and crannies. They have a gift, a special talent. And they end up in king’s palaces when others more noble wouldn’t even dream of it. Lesson? Use your God given gifts to the max. Writing, speaking, creating, drawing, fixing, making. Whatever it is, get in your place of greatest gifting and use it. A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.
Can you learn from these four? Absolutely. Do what they do. Work hard and work ahead. Admit and unashamedly cover your weaknesses. Develop good relationships where you hang together with others to accomplish great things. And identify and maximize your gifts. God has purpose for you. He has a plan for you. He is wanting your life to be all He designed it to be.
